TRANSPORT OF YESTERYEAR Club History...
Transport Of Yesteryear (TOY) was formed in 1999 by four local vintage and classic vehicle enthusiasts who met up with the idea of forming a new club in the area. On May 4th 1999 the first meeting took place at The Victoria Inn, Knights in the bottom at Chickerell, where 39 people turned up and a display of 19 vintage and classic vehicles formed a display.
Carle Grahame stood as Acting Chairman, and 25 years later is still the TOY Club Chairman ! A welcome newsletter was produced by Nick Aplin, who continued there after and now produces the 'TOY times' magazine. Within just eight weeks the club held it's first 'SHOW' at School Hill in the heart of Chickerell village, and £150 was raised for Cancercare Dorset charity. The Show ran very succesfully for 20 years . A Club Management Team was set up and the club soon became known as the 'TOY Club'.

In the year 2000 the club's second major event was born, The Hardy Country Run and this ran successfully for ten years being organised by Len & Milly Watts. After their retirement it was taken on by Nick and Will Aplin and it was renamed to the 'Hardy Country Classic Tour', entries are regularly over 100 vehicles taking part each year.
Over the years the club has supported many charities, these have included - Cancercare Dorset, Clic, Riding for the Disabled, Weldmar Hospicecare Trust, Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance. After 13 years Nick and Will Aplin stood down as Organisers, and Terry Downton took on the job of organising the 2025 Tour.
The membership of the club is currently at 95 members all over Dorset and further afield , they own various vintage and classic vehicles, including Steam engines and tractors. The Club organises various road run's during the year and attend major shows including the Melplash Show and the Cattistock Countryside Show each year. 2024 will see the club's 25th Anniversary and to think some said it wouldn't last !
