The Sun Inn Steam & Vehicle Meet / Christmas Steam &
Vehicle Meet History ( Top o ' Town car park, Dorchester ).
This event started in December 2005.
Some 12 or so years ago our club members were invited to join local Steam engine owner Jim Goddard at The Sun Inn at Lower Burton near Dorchester for a informal get together.
The first event saw Jim's engine ' Gladstone ' and three club cars meet and ever since then we have organised this annual gathering.
In those early years we would get two steam engines if we were lucky and half a dozen cars ! ' Hayden Princess ' formerly Jack Miles engine attended one year and other engines have included Stephen Brackstone's ' Little Atom ' steam over from the Piddle Valley and in 2015 we welcomed ' Bess ' engine owned by Stephen Hubbuck to our event. This engine steamed in from Wool and created a lot of interest when it went through Dorchester . The event soon got to big for the Sun Inn and so in 2018 we moved into Dorchester and the Top o ' Town car park where we had toilets and the cafe on hand. The Mayor of Dorchester attends and looks forward every year to seeing all the vehicles / machinery on display. 2022 event is looking to be another busy event on December 18th.
