Honiton Hill Rally - 28th & 29th August 2016
This year the Honiton Hill Rally moved to a new site, with plenty of hard standing in case of bad weather. With the new dates of the GDSF this event clashed for the very first time, however they still managed to get a good turn out of vehicles / machinery for the two day show.
On the Monday they hold a big Auction sale which always does very well. This being a working show you get to see all kinds of exhibits working including combine harvesters which is always a highlight at Honiton.
Next years dates are 27th & 28th August 2017.

This years event was sadly hit by some rain in the morning that meant some of the planes were not flying at Henstridge Airfield where the event is held. Quite a number of TOY club members supported and enjoyed this popular day out.

48th Great Dorset Steam Fair - 25-29 August 2016
This years Steam Fair had changed their dates, first time in 30 years or so !
The opening day was on Thursday and the crowds flocked to the Tarrant Hinton site to enjoy all the sights, smells and sounds of this unique event, the biggest in the world. The Steam Plough Club were celebrating their 50th Anniversary, and the World War One ' Battle of the Somme ' centenary display was another high point of this years show.
A few rain showers on the first day soon cleared to leave a sunny and hot day. All sections seemed full and there was a lot for everyone to see and enjoy over the 600 acre site.
The 49th GDSF will be on 24 - 28 August 2017 !

The 8th Buckham Fair - Sunday 21st August 2016
This year was the club's 7th attendance at this event, and what a fantastic variety of cars we had one show for them this year. TOY Club cars and invited vehicles totalled 24 plus for the first time in the history of the Fair a Steam engine ' Princess Victoria ' from Yeovil and owned by the Darch family. We also had the fab street organ of Alan Roberts.
A big thank you to everyone who supported the day to help raise money for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust this year.
The interest from the visitors seem to increase every year, it was a great day out despite the late afternoon rain coming in at Buckham Down.
Looking forward to the 2017 Buckham Fair !

Drusilla's Inn Annual Steam Up - Saturday 20th August 2016
This annual Steam Up held at the Drusilla's Inn at Horton saw another great turn out.
35 large Steam engines plus 8 miniature engines gave a great pre Great Dorset Steam Fair taster for what is to come in a few days time at Tarrant Hinton. Although the weather wasn't as nice as in previous years this didn't put people off from attending. Music was provided by a great band in the marquee a bit more easy on the ears than last years !
No doubt this will all happen again next year.

TOY Memorial Run - Sunday 14th August 2016
Our Annual Memorial Run was organised by Pete Walker, and this year was known as the ' Kerry Day Memorial Run ' in memory of club member and co organiser of these run's who passed away in January this year.
Members met at Southill in Weymouth in the glorious sunshine and donations were given to Pete for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust. A nice gentle run followed and the finishing venue this year was Upton House near Poole where members parked on the grass and enjoyed their lunches in the sunshine.
Our thanks go to Pete for organising this run, and no doubt he already has ideas for next years run.

WHOTT Dorchester Vintage Bus Running Day - Sunday 14th August 2016
This was the second year for this Bus Running Day in Dorchester, and yet again the people came along to see and ride on the buses throughout the day in the glorious sunshine. Of course the highlight for many was having a chance to ride on the former DTC Royal Blue Coach, this vehicle made trips up to Came Down several times and took part in the ' Mystery Tour ' in the afternoon with two other vehicles.
A number of buses were also on static display, and were also joined by TOY members Len Watts with his 1947 Austin K4 Lorry, Gordon Guppy with his MGB GT and Carle with his 1935 Beardmore Taxi cab. John Dancy's A60 van was also on display.
I am sure this event will return in 2017 for everyone to enjoy again.

West Somerset Railway Vintage & Classic Vehicle Rally - 6th & 7th August 2016
The annual rally organised by the WSR was as popular as previous years with a very good selection of Steam engines and vehicles, plus machinery of a bygone age to interest old and young alike.
The added attraction is of course the popular West Somerset Railway which runs along side the rally site, it really is a great event and seems to get more popular as they years go on. I think next year the rally will be 30 years old.

30th Anniversary Torbay Steam Fair - 5th, 6th, 7th August 2016
This year was a special year for the annual Torbay Steam Fair as they were celebrating their 30th Anniversary.
Situated on the English Riviera this rally has a good number of Steam engines, and on the Friday they had a road run from Paignton to the show site just outside of Brixham.
There was a fine turn out of vintage and classic vehicles / machinery and the weather was good, which makes all the difference as we all know ! I am sure they will put together an equally great show for 2017.

Club Meeting - Tuesday 2nd August 2016
Our August club meeting was supposed to be another static display, however as the weather wasn't very nice it was decided to hold our meeting at The Lugger Inn.
The Chairman Carle welcomed the 50 or so members to the meeting and read out apologies from Peter & Anita Meech. General club business was dealt with and club member Bill White told the meeting of plans for a Crafty Dog Show in April 2017, and he invited TOY members to bring their cars along for a static display. The meeting agreed to re- start our two seafront days with our cars and selling draw tickets for 2017, one will be in May and the second day in June.
Later in the evening we presented our cheque from this years Annual Show, Roy Hardy from the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance accepted the cheque for £1,000. We have supported this charity now for 14 years !
Roy thanked us for our very generous donation and said it is greatly appreciated. The Air Ambulance will be getting a new craft in November, it will be able to fly at night so they will be able to increase their flying time to help the community.

Yeovil Show - 16th / 17th July 2016
This show was last held 50 years ago, and it was re- started this year, lots of animals and farm related items, however also a display of Cars, Stationary Engines etc. joined together at the Yeovil Showground. I think a couple of TOY club members supported the weekend, again it was perfect weather and over 10,000 people attended on the first day we are told.
BPPC Transport Heritage Show - 16th / 17th July 2016
This years Show held at Pilford Farm near Wimborne was blessed with fine weather, and a good turn out of vintage vehicles and machinery. TOY member Will Aplin won the ' Best Commercial under 7.5 ton ' with his 1959 Austin 101 Pick Up ( complete with its load a miniature 101 Pick Up ). The arena was busy all day with parades of the vehicles, and although not so many stalls this year people was sure to find a bargain amongst them.
Leigh Food Festival & Classic Car Display - Saturday 16th July 2016
This year's event was blessed with good weather, and a good display of vehicles enjoyed this popular event in the village of Leigh near Sherborne. There were probably a few TOY members among the cars.
Annual Club Barbecue & Static Display - Tuesday 5th July 2016
Our July meeting saw our Annual Barbecue at The Victoria Inn, Knights in the bottom, Chickerell where the club started back in May of 1999. Around 25 vehicles were on the grass and formed a great display on a nice sunny summer's evening, probably the best evening we have had here for around three years.
Busy on the cooking was Carle who was assisted by Muriel and later by Wilf Hampshire. Among the wonderful vehicles was Martin Ashman's Lea Francis, Ron Kingman's 1949 MG TC and Tony Tanswell's MG. Carle's Beardmore Taxi complete with wedding ribbons was also on show. It was nice to see Richard Porter in his Alpine Tiger, also John & Anne Murphy with their Singer Gazelle.
Lots more great cars were on display. Carle welcomed everyone and spoke of our successful Show last month, he thanked everyone who helped and supported the day, we will have a final amount we will be donating to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance at the next meeting. He asked for Brent |& Sue Gillard to come forward as they left the Show before the awards and they won the JOHN OVENS AWARD, so Muriel presented them with the award for their Austin Cambridge.
The evening was rounded off with the raffle, thanks to Martin who arranged this as he does every month, the winners included Sally Williams, Sue Gillard and Michelle Rice.
A nice evening in good company.

Evershot Country Fair - Sunday 19th June 2016
Nine TOY Club vehicles left Dorchester at 10.00am via Bradford Peverell, Muckleford , Grimstone and finally Evershot.
The weather was not looking to be kind for the day, as the cars arrived in Evershot the rain came and this continued throughout the day. Among the cars attending was the Chairman's 1935 Beardmore Taxi Cab, a 1935 Morris 8 Tourer, and a 1935 Austin Litchfield. Sadly due to the ground conditions the cars left the field shortly before 2pm while they still had traction to get out without the aid of a tractor!
This was the third year for our club to attend this event, and previously the weather has been superb in the lovely setting.
Hopefully they will get better weather for the 2017 Evershot Country Fair!

6th Steam on Poole Quay - Saturday 14th May 2016
This year's popular Annual Steam on the Quay at Poole was very well supported with over 20 engines.
Members of the public could see the engines moving along the Quay and children enjoyed rides, with donations going to various charities.
TOY member Len Watts was among the line up with his 3'' Freelance Showman's Engine ' Miss Jodie Brown ' named after his granddaughter . This engine has attended this event a few times, and it was running all day giving rides with all the other engines. Len built this engine between 1970 and 1998, it was made out of scrap metal and it has been rallied since 1998 all over the South of England.
The star of the day was Richard Knott's Steam Car as pictured, also pictured is Len Watts with his engine.
